OAKFIELD TWP., Mich. – A Kent County man was honored Wednesday for rescuing a boy from a dog attack.

Michigan State Police gave Kenneth Hansen a Distinguished Citizen award for rescuing the boy on May 4th in Oakfield Township.

Police say that Hansen and his work crew were working at a construction site when they heard screams from a child at a nearby home.  They found four dogs attacking an 8-year-old boy in the backyard of the home.  Hansen jumped the fence and carried the boy out of the yard while the dogs kept biting at him.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the actions of Mr. Hansen saved the life of this child.  Mr. Hansen knowingly, and without hesitation, put himself in harm’s way to save the life of another” stated F/Lt Kevin Sweeney, commander of the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post in a press release.
