Canadian Wildfire Creates Hazy West Michigan Skies

WEST MICHIGAN — Skies across West Michigan have been a little hazy Tuesday despite mostly clear skies in the Great Lakes region. The culprit? Canadian wildfires thousands of miles to the northwest.

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, there are just over 2800 fires currently burning in Canada with several very large fires in the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Upper atmospheric winds, are travelling due east along southern Canada and drop southeast into the Great Lakes. Funneling wildfire smoke directly into Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.

The smoky skies have created hazy conditions all over West Michigan for most of Tuesday. The FOX17 Sky cams in Battle Creek  and Grand Rapids also picked up on the hazy conditions.

Chances for rain on Wednesday morning and a change in the jet stream pattern Thursday will likely bring an end to the hazy conditions in the Great Lakes.
