JENISON, Mich. -- A Grandville business owner who sparked outrage after saying he would deny service to gay costumers hosted a forum Thursday evening at the Jenison Center for the Arts.

Dieseltec owner Brian Klawiter said religion is being forced out by liberals and homosexuals. He went onto encourage business owners to use their companies as a platform to draw attention to the issue.

The town hall  meeting included several conservative speakers and was free to the public. Organizers said the focus of the event was to emphasize the teachings of the Bible and the Constitution.

Protesters were outside the event and police were brought in to make sure everything stayed peaceful.

In April, Klawiter posted a lengthy statement on his business’ Facebook page calling homosexuality immoral and saying he would refuse service to “an openly gay person or persons.”  He also offered to give discounts to customers who brought guns into his store.

Following that post, hundreds of people responded both in support and against his statement.
