EAST LANSING -- Maddie Van Dyke's goal with 4:12 left in the 2nd overtime propelled Unity Christian to a division 3 state championship win, 2-1, over Detroit Country Day at Michigan State's DeMartin Stadium.
It was an emotional win for Van Dyke who lost her father in the last year. "Wishing that I had my dad in the stands but I know it can't be like that, but I know he's watching me and I have a lot of people supporting me" Van Dyke said.
The Crusaders out shot Country Day, 32-4 in the game.
The title is the 9th for Unity Christian's girls program, all coming in the last 11 years.
