LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Senate has passed a bill that would cut funding to the Michigan Film Office.

The bill would prohibit the Michigan Film Office and the Michigan Strategic Fund from funding any agreement for direct production expenditures, Michigan personnel expenditures, crew personnel expenditures, or qualified personal expendures.

The 2015-16 fiscal budget appropriates $25 million to the film office.  Just over $19 million of that is required to be deposited in the state pension system to cover a previous bond debt.  That would leave just under $6 million for movie funding.  Any funding left at the end of the 2015-16 budget year, would go to the state general fund.

The bill is now left for Governor Rick Snyder’s approval.
