Gerald R. Ford Airport reinstates Allegiant nonstop flight to Fort Lauderdale
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Starting mid-December, the nonstop Allegiant flight to Fort Lauderdale will return to Grand Rapids. This will be the 23rd city that Gerald R. Ford Airport offers flights to.
Due to resource issues, Allegiant pulled this seasonal flight from Grand Rapids about one year ago, Gerald R. Ford Airport Deputy Executive Director Phil Johnson said. However, there was still high customer demand for it.
Starting Dec. 16, the nonstop flight between Grand Rapids and Fort Lauderdale will take off twice per week, seasonally through April. Johnson said their customer travel is up nearly 10 percent, and Florida is their top traveler destination.
“Florida is our most frequently visited state from West Michigan,” said Johnson. “So, any time we can get additional flights to Florida we take advantage of that.”
“People are flying more, they’re taking advantage of the nonstop opportunities, and the ability to get around the world. So I think you’ll see the airports respond to that with more capacity and new nonstop routes.”
Allegiant plans to offer low fares on these flights. For a limited time the company is offering fares starting at $99 one-way.
