PORTLAND, Mich. -- Portland residents are coming together to help with clean-up efforts after an EF-1 tornado touched down in the eastern Ionia County community Monday afternoon.

Julie Sheridan, who has owned a home in Portland for 22 years, said there wasn't a single tree still planted on her property, but she found several in her yard.  Her deck collapsed and her chimney is gone.

Sheridan said Portland middle and high school students have been helping her clean up.

"I'm so thankful that people are here helping me.  I couldn't have done it by myself," she said.  "We got a good group of people; a lot of great people here in Portland."

Like many of the people FOX 17 talked with, Reynolds said she's thankful no lives were lost and says her material things can be replaced.
