GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Gratitude was the sentiment echoed throughout the Apartment Lounge in Grand Rapids this morning. Ed Ladner and his partner of 52 years, Milton Lennox founded and ran Michigan's oldest  L-G-B-T owned and operated bar for decades. When Ed and Milt opened the Apartment Lounge, being gay was widely unaccepted, so they gave it an inconspicuous name that would not get picked up in everyday conversation. The bar has since been handed over to its current owner Bobby J.

The bar was scheduled to open at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, but opened early.  Many patrons stopped to thank Ed and Bobby for their years of service in the L-G-B-T community.
