GUN PLAIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Residents are renewing a push to get a stretch of roadway repaired in Allegan County. Concerns over loose gravel, narrow shoulders, and overgrown trees were the hot topics of discussion during Thursday night's Gun Plain Township board meeting.

The stretch of roadway is 108th Avenue from 11th Street to 15th Street in both Otsego Township and Gun Plain Township.

Last June, Otsego residents agreed to their portion of the funding. Thursday, it was up for discussion in Gun Plain Township.

Some people have experienced the damage for years, and it's leaving many to wonder why there has been such a long delay.

The Allegan County Road Commission provided some answers. "It's going to be a high-impact project," said Larry Brown with the Allegan County Road Commission. "There's going to be substantial cuts. There's going to be fills, there's going to a lot of widening involved."

Land easement agreements will need to collected  from all affected landowners before the process can move forward.

The township will then be able to apply for a grant. The funds provided to them won't cover the entire bill but will ease the punch. If the 108th Avenue project is not rewarded the grant, both Otsego Township and Gun Plain Township can apply for it again.
