LUDINGTON, Mich. – A stretch of northern Michigan roadway will be named today for a fallen Michigan State Police trooper.

A stretch of M-116 north of Ludington will become known as Trooper Paul K. Butterfield II Memorial Highway at a dedication Monday afternoon.

Butterfield was shot and killed by Eric Knysz in 2013 at a traffic stop.  Knysz was convicted of murder and then committed suicide in prison in 2014.

The road from Lincoln River to Big Sable River will be named after Butterfield.
