OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- An 18-year-old man was killed and two other teenagers were injured Thursday after a crash in Oshtemo Township.

According to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at KL Avenue and Almena Drive.  The driver of an Oldsmobile failed to stop at a stop sign coming off KL, and a northbound Hummer slammed into the driver's side door.

The victim in the crash has been identified as 18-year-old Jon Porn of Mattawan.   Two 16-year-old passengers from Mattawan who were in his vehicle were critically injured in the crash.

The other driver, a 23-year-old Dorr woman, was not injured, officials said in a release.  She was transporting the Hummer for Car Zone, from Paw Paw to Otsego.

Those who live near the intersection are calling for action following an all-too-familiar occurrence. Deal Ohlmann has lived near the corner of KL Avenue and Almena Drive for eleven years. He says he's never seen a fatal accident, but has had plenty of close calls.

"It's usually brakes and, you know, screaming and people flipping each other off and running down," Ohlmann said," but it does happen often. People go through here at about 55 miles per hour and people don’t see them coming.”

Ohlmann is hoping this first fatal tragedy, is also the last.

"It's a hard corner," he said, "and I'd like to see something done about it."
