GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Leonard Street closed Monday on Grand Rapids Northeast side as part of a long-term water main project that already has closed Lafayette Avenue for months. Leonard Street will be closed between Lafayette Avenue and Ashland Avenue, just east of Diamond Avenue, through November.

The main project aim is to “add an additional water discharge line from the Livingston pumping station to the Knapp Street water tank” that will increase reliability of water service on the city’s Northeast side, says statements from the engineering department of the city of Grand Rapids. While the roads are dug up, workers are improving local water mains, sanitary sewer lines, and storm sewer lines.
