Cassopolis man died from injuries after jumping from moving car

POKAGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities say that a Cassopolis man who jumped from a moving car has died from his injuries.

According to Cass County Sheriffs, Drake Brewer, 21, jumped out of the passenger side of a moving vehicle traveling northbound on M-51 near Peavine St Friday before noon.

It was determined that Brewer was arguing with the driver – 20-year-old Abigail Smith from Niles – before opening the door and exiting the car onto the roadway. Witnesses at the scene told sheriffs that they saw Brewer throw himself out.

Brewer was taken to a hospital in Dowagiac by ambulance before being airlifted to Borgess Hopsital in Kalamazoo.

Saturday morning, Cass County Sheriffs said that he died from his injuries.

Alcohol doesn’t appear to have been a factor.

This incident remains under invesitgation.
