MONTAGUE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An award of up to $1,000 is being offered in the search for a hit-and-run driver accused of killing a bicyclist over the weekend.

The crash happened Saturday morning at about 6:45am on Fruitvale Road in Montague Township.  The victim, Susan Cummings of Lake Orion, was taking part in a group bicycle ride across Michigan.  The group was riding Saturday from Montague to Bay City.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler says witnesses described the pickup truck as being gray or silver in color and may have had a crew cab or four doors.  Witnesses also told deputies that the vehicle was seen a short time before the crash in the parking lot of Chassix, a local manufacturer.  It is not known if the driver was an employee or was just visiting the company for some reason.

Deputies say that Cummings was struck from behind and was dragged down the road for “quite some ways.”  The group had about 100 people riding.

Silent Observer is offering the reward.  Call them at 231-72-CRIME,  text MKGTIP and your message to 274637, or submit a tip at their website if you know anything.
