WEST MICHIGAN — It’s that time of year! Mid August is typically the time of year when we can look for the Perseid meteors to appear in our night time northeastern sky. This year in 2015, it will peak between August 11 and 13. The great thing is this year is the new moon (which means there is no moon or glow) will coincide with the meteor shower itself, so viewing will be made easier by a darker sky.

Make sure to get away from city lights and generally look to the northeastern sky after midnight. The Perseids radiate from the constellation Perseus and are pieces of debris from the Comet Swift-Tuttle. On a clear night…which we’re expecting the next couple nights, 60 to 100 meteors per hour will be possible. Enjoy!
