PIERSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office has charged the person they believe responsible for driving through the Pierson Township Cemetery in July.

Patrick Wayne Oliver, 28, is charged with Operating without Insurance, Driving on a Suspended License, Reckless Driving and Failure to Report an Accident.  He was arrested on August 19 and is currently free on a $1,500 bond.

On the afternoon of July 19, a witness reported seeing a vehicle leave the road and enter the cemetery.  The driver did not stop and left the scene. The witness was able to get the license number and Oliver was eventually found and questioned.

The crash caused over $13,000 in damages to the cemetery and damaged several headstones and monuments.

Oliver will next be in court on August 28.
