CNN —The train was speeding through Belgium when a man emerged from the train bathroom, shirtless with a rifle — possibly an AK 47 — slung over his shoulder.

That’s when three men– a member of the Air Force, an inactive National Guard member and a civilian — responded quickly, possibly preventing a deadly attack on the high-speed train.

The suspect had a box cutter or some other bladed weapon, authorities said.

One of the American servicemen suffered a slash wound to his head but is expected to recover.

A passenger’s throat was also cut according to the servicemen.

The train diverted to France where authorities were able to make an arrest of the gunman.

Officials say the suspect was known to counter-terrorism agencies for radical Jihadist views and had plenty of ammo with him on the train.
