DENVER, Colo. – Colorado theater shooter James Holmes will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A judge formally sentenced Holmes Wednesday to a dozen life sentences without parole, plus an additional 3,300 years to be served consecutively.

That’s the maximum sentence he faced after jurors convicted him of murder, but could not agree on the death penalty.

At the end of the sentencing, the judge said Holmes deserves no sympathy.

Holmes was convicted of the 2012 Aurora theater shootings that left 12 people dead and scores injured.
