Man charged in attempted rape at Albion College

ALBION, Mich. – A man has been charged in the attempted rape of an Albion college student this past weekend.

Keontia West, 20, has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering, assault with intent to commit a felony, resisting and obstructing a police officer and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

The student woke up around 4:00am Sunday to allegedly find West in her dorm room in Wesley Hall attempting to have sex with her, according to police. The student fought the man off and yelled for help before the man ran out of the room.  The student was not hurt.

Authorities reviewed campus surveillance video and found the suspect in had broken into another building on campus. That building was not occupied. He was arrested a short time later.

Police said West is not a student, but was visiting someone in the the same building where the attempted rape took place.

West is being held on a $25,000 bond.
