MUSKEGON, Mich. —  Mary Berghuis, a warden at two Muskegon prisons, has been banned from the facilities pending the outcome of an internal investigation, according to Michigan Department of Corrections Spokesperson Holly Kramer.

Berghuis is the warden of the West Shoreline Correctional Facility and the Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility.   Kramer said she was placed on “stop order” Tuesday, which means she cannot enter the prisons until the investigation is complete.

Shane Jackson, deputy warden of the Muskegon Correction Facility, will act as warden pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Kramer.

The allegations against Berghuis are unclear at this time.

According to the Muskegon Chronicle, Berghuis has been warden of the two prisons for the past 15 years and has been a state employee since 1966.
