IONIA, Mich. -- Fire damaged the older Berger building in downtown Ionia Wednesday morning. The building is now home of Reed and Hoppes Towing

Crews responded around 4:35 a.m. to what was described as a fully-involved structure fire near the intersection of M-66 Dexter Street and M-21 Lincoln Avenue.

When firefighters first arrived, they described flames coming through the roof. As they fought the fire, the back of the building collapsed.

Five cars were inside the building and are a total loss. The towing business should be able to use the front of the building, said Ionia Department of Public Safety.

The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.

(Annie Szatkowski reported on scene.)
