United States – There is a good chance that Hurricane Joaquin will impact the east coast by this weekend.
Wednesday afternoon the hurricane had tops winds of around 85 mph and was moving to the southwest under 10 mph. Hurricane Warnings are in effect for the Central and Northwest Bahamas tonight and Thursday. Rainfall amounts will be around 5-10 inches with some isolated 20 inch amounts possible.
The computer models are different on the track of the storm over the next several days. The National Hurricane Center predicts the “most likely track” will be north for the next several days before turning northwest by Monday. The hurricane is forecast to increase to a Category 3 on Saturday, before making landfall as a Category 2.
Very heavy rain is expected by late Sunday into Tuesday. Parts of the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic state may see as much as 10 inches of rain with locally heavier amounts.
