ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The new M-231 highway is almost finished, but vehicles will not be the first to use the highway. The M23.1 Run will be held Saturday before the road opens to vehicles.

The new roadway runs between M-45 Lake Michigan Drive and M-104 in Nunica at I-96. The highway is intended to be the first open section of a long-planned bypass connecting I-196 in Holland and I-96. It’s not known if or when the entire bypass will be completed.

Registration for runners is full, but people can walk or ride their bicycles on the highway.

The run begins and ends at 8 a.m. from Robinson Elementary School close to the highway on 120th Avenue. From 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., walking and bicycling will be allowed.

Access for spectators and bicyclists will be at Lake Michigan Drive, Lincoln Street, at at M-104 Cleveland Street.

M-231 is expected to open to vehicles in late October.
