POLKTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man is in custody after police say he blacked out and crashed into a power pole, after inhaling a duster can while behind the wheel.

A duster can contains compressed gas and is used in blowing dust off surfaces where dust is not easily wiped off.

The accident happened late Sunday night on Garfield Street near 68th Avenue in Ottawa County’s Polkton Township.  Police say the 20-year-old suspect lost consciousness while driving his pickup and hit the pole, knocking out power to a couple hundred people.  He was not injured in the crash.

The crash impacted traffic well into Monday morning, with 68th Avenue closed south of I-96 until 8 a.m.

The suspect is currently in jail awaiting arraignment on multiple charges.
