HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — An Indiana man has pleaded not guilty in connection with the fatal crash that killed 13-year-old David Talsma, according to officials with Ottawa County District Court.
Travis Fox is facing one misdemeanor count of a moving violation causing death in connection with the Aug. 3 crash on eastbound I-196 near the M-6 interchange. He allegedly told deputies at the scene that he was eating a sandwich and looked down at his GPS at the time of the crash.
Traffic was stopped for a construction zone. Five vehicles were involved in the crash and nine people were injured. Talsma, who was riding in the car with his 16-year-old sister, died in the crash.
Fox faces up to a year in jail if convicted. His next court date has not yet been determined.
