KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An apartment building which caught fire Saturday night and left two people with minor injuries is now considered to likely be a total loss, according to fire officials.

Crews worked late into the night Saturday battling a large fire at the Country Meadows apartment complex on Sunnyside Drive in Kalamazoo Township. The complex is located just south of Gull Road.

The fire chief on scene told FOX 17 the fire broke out around 10:30 Saturday night. The fire began in an apartment in the rear of the building.

Three fire departments were on scene to battle the blaze. Officials said two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while nine others were rescued from the building, including a woman who had to be rescued from a balcony.

The Red Cross will be taking care of those who lost their home.

A fire at this same complex displaced at least 12 families in August. No one was injured in that incident.
