RUTLAND TWP., Mich. – Michigan State Police tell FOX 17 that one person has been injured in a hunting accident.

A 911 call came into Barry County Dispatch just before 8:00am from two men who were duck hunting on Otis Lake.  They reported hearing a gunshot and a man’s voice yelling for help.   Michigan State Police, the Barry County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol boat and the Delton Fire Department responded and found the 28-year-old Shelbyville man standing in the lake next to his kayak with a serious gunshot wound to his forearm.  He told responders that he accidentally shot himself while getting out of his kayak and getting into his duck blind.

The man was taken by ambulance to a landing zone, where AeroMed flew him to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids for treatment.  Police say the man was conscious and alert.

Otis Lake is just east of the Barry State Game Area and the Yankee Springs State Recreation Area.
