GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A West Michigan family was out hundreds of dollars after paying a no-show contractor, but now they’re all smiles after calling the FOX 17 Problem Solvers.

Blueprint Granite promised to put in new counter tops for the Burrell family for $2,400. The Burrells paid the contractor $1,200, but they never heard from the company again. However, a different contractor saw FOX 17’s story and offered to get the job done.

Julie Burrell’s kitchen counter tops went from nonexistent to brand new Cambria Quartz in just a few weeks.

“I was not at all expecting that,” said Burrell. "I was just hoping that I would maybe get my money back, but I was not expecting somebody else to come forward and help us finish the kitchen or upgrade or do any of that."

Lakeside Surfaces Inc. in Muskegon heard about the Burrell’s troubles from FOX 17’s report earlier this month and offered to help her out.

“Part of the culture at Lakeside Surfaces is to give back to the community,” said Rob Reigler.

Julie got another unlikely surprise: the owner of Blueprint Granite, who was nowhere to be found, resurfaced to return Burrell’s money.

“He sent me an email apologizing, making a few more excuses, and claiming he would give me our refund back,” said Burrell.

Burrell received the refund in the mail shortly after that.

Burrell can’t believe she’ll get to serve her chicken pot pie in the dream kitchen that just a few weeks ago she thought she would never have. “It’s definitely a better outcome than I could have imagined it to be."

“If it weren’t for the FOX 17 Problem Solvers, we would still be sitting here with our old counter tops and out $1,200, so you guys really came forward and went above and beyond, and we really appreciate it.”

Blueprint Granite has still not responded to any of our requests for a statement.
