ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety is investigating a racially charged social media incident involving middle school students.

Officers are not releasing much more information, but say they received a snapshot of a private social media chat on private devices.  They have not yet determined the locations of the people involved, but say it involves a small group of students from Upton Middle School.

Investigators say that no specific or immediate threats were made and there was no mention of any weapons.  They do say the comments were racially charged.

Police, the school, and the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office are working together on the case.
