KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A new annual tax passed Tuesday will generate $800,000 a year to help aide homelessness in the Kalamazoo area.

According to officials, the average home costs $117,000 and homeowners will see up to a $5 increase to their annual taxes.

The revenue will aim to help families struggling to get back on their feet. It's also considered a short-term plan, because the goal is to see homeless families move forward on their own.
