Grandmother and child injured in Holland Twp. fire

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 2-year-old and her grandmother are at Spectrum Butterworth hospital being treated for serious burns. A fire destroyed their Holland Township townhouse Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the victims are Maria Guiterrez-Fuentes, 60, and Layla Cahu-Rumaro, 2.

They lived at Pompa Vidals Townhouses at 80 E. Lakewood Blvd. Holland Township fire chief Jim Kohsel said the cause of the fire isn't known at this time, but he said someone was working on a water heater prior. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion.
