WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. - An overnight crash and car fire that resulted in the death of a woman is being considered a homicide.

A 45-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's department was called to the report of a car fire on I-96 eastbound in Wright Township about 2:30am. They found a burned body inside the vehicle. As detectives investigated, they determined that the cause of the fire was not a crash.

Shortly after the initial call, the man was found walking on Ironwood Drive. Deputies determined he was connected to the burned vehicle and taken into custody.  According to Grand Rapids Police, the man then told the Ottawa County detectives that he had gotten into an argument with the woman in the 1100 block of Emerald Avenue NE. He allegedly confessed to killing the woman and driving the body out to I-96 and setting the car on fire.

The suspect has been identified through court and criminal records as Donald Spice. The woman's identity has not yet been released.

We'll have more details when they become available.
