GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety has barricaded both piers along the channel to Lake Michigan.

The south pier closed at 10 p.m. Wednesday as strong winds moved in along the lakeshore.  Barricades are in place in the area and officials with the department are monitoring the pier and weather conditions.

Public Safety officials also say residents on Harbor Drive and North Shore Drive should "secure outdoor items on the lake side of their homes."
