BOYNE CITY, Mich. – A man was sentenced to 40 to 60 months in prison for shooting an AK-47 at a woman and her vehicle to “get his point across.”

Richard Lee France II, 51, was sentenced for the incident that happened on July 27th in Wilson Township in Charlevoix County.  France was intoxicated and angry, according to his testimony at a plea hearing in October.  He testified that he fired the weapon because the woman, “wouldn’t listen, she never does.”

France held police at bay for about an hour that day.  During the standoff, France told a deputy that “I got plenty of guns..why don’t you come up here and see what happens?” He also said that he could “pick off” officers “like chickens.”  France did surrender without further incidents.

France was sentenced to the maximum under the guidelines because of what was cited as “repeated victimization of others.”
