SPRINGFIELD, Mich. – The Calhoun County Board of Canvassers will be counting votes by hand Thursday morning, to see if the mayoral election on November 3rd was accurate.

In the election, Harry Burdett beat Carey Whitfield by four votes, 112-108.  Since it was a close vote, Whitfield asked for the recount.

There were no reports of problems with machines in Springfield on Election Day.  Two teams will first hand-count the ballots to come to the same total number as Nov. 3 and then count again by candidate, to get the final result.

Burdett has already been sworn in as mayor, but if the recount shows Whitfield won, he’d be taken out of his position.
