MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Officials at Reeths-Puffer High School are working with authorities to figure out who is responsible for placing a bomb threat Monday afternoon.

According to a note sent home to parents and staff by Superintendent Steve Edwards, the bomb threat was discovered in a high school boys bathroom stall.

Here’s the full statement:

Good afternoon R-P Parents and Staff,

I am emailing to inform you that the Michigan State Police, Muskegon Township Police, and Reeths-Puffer School staff are working together to identify the person responsible for writing a threatening message discovered this afternoon on a stall in the high school boy’s bathroom. We believe the threat was written by a Reeths-Puffer High School student. The message implied a bomb threat for November 28

While we believe this statement to be a “copycat” based on another local bomb threat, we are taking significant precautions to ensure student and staff safety. Tonight the State Police are conducting a thorough “sweep” of the high school with two bomb sniffing dogs. Once the building is cleared, the Township Police will increase monitoring in the area.  Both law enforcement and administration will maintain an increased presence at school tomorrow (Tuesday). In addition, all events scheduled for this Saturday at the High School will be relocated.

Behavior of this type is unacceptable and has the potential to cause significant disruption for our students, staff, parents, and police. Once the student is identified, Reeths-Puffer Schools will discipline the student according to board policies. Additionally, law enforcement will ensure criminal penalties are applied.

If you have any information about this incident, please contact local law enforcement right away.

Thank you for your help and support,

Steve
