ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP & FOX 17) — Law enforcement officers from across the country are honoring a Colorado State Patrol allegedly killed by a retired Army colonel who was drinking and driving.

They were among hundreds of people who attended a memorial service for Trooper Jaimie Jursevics on Monday in suburban Denver.

Investigators say 52-year-old Eric Peter Henderson hit the trooper Nov. 15 as she was using her flashlight to direct him to the side of Interstate 25 to see if he was driving while drunk. He was on his way home after attending a Denver Broncos game with a friend.

Jursevics is survived by a husband and an 8-month-old daughter.

Speaking at the service, Gov. John Hickenlooper said whenever an officer is killed, people are reminded of the heart behind every badge.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office posted the below photo of Jursevics’ daughter on Facebook with the warning about drunk driving.
