ROCKFORD, Mich. - Five people were hurt in a serious crash in Kent County.

Three cars were involved in the crash at the intersection of Wabasis Avenue and 14 Mile Road in Rockford.

According to crews at the scene,  a driver in a pickup truck was waiting to turn left off Wabasis onto 14 Mile when it was hit by a driver in another car who wasn't paying attention.  That driver then veered into oncoming traffic and hit a third car head-on.

The car that started the crash then caught on fire.  The fire chief tells FOX 17 that a passerby had a fire extinguisher in their car and put out the fire.

Five people have been taken to the hospital with various injuries.
