PORTAGE, Mich. — The ovens are off and the Black Friday deals are on.

People across West Michigan were already headed to the stores Thursday afternoon, searching for the hottest deals in town.

More than 200 people waited in line for the Toys "R" Us in Portage to open its doors at 5 p.m.

One of those shoppers, Lakesha Gonzalez from Kalamazoo, said she started her day Thursday at 3 p.m.

"I have four more stores after this store, then I'm going to go home probably sleep for three hours, leave, get up at five in the morning and go shopping again," she said. "Even if there was a lot of snow, I would be bundled up standing in line."

She told FOX 17 she was out shopping for her two girls, one 8, the other, 17.

"I really like the rush and the deals," she said, and she's not the only one.

"I'm usually not a fan, but a lot of stuff I was going to get was on sale, so I'm here," said Sarah Selvidge, who was at Toys "R" Us shopping for her two sons.

Those we spoke with Thursday afternoon said it's not so much about the deals, but about making their kids smile.
