AVON, Conn. — Police in Florida and Connecticut are investigating after a woman posted a picture to Facebook showing a dog wearing a makeshift muzzle out of duct tape.

The Facebook post went viral on Saturday, garnering nearly 400,000 shares since being posted by Katie Brown of Avon, Connecticut on Friday morning.

Brown’s caption for the photo reads: “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!”

The comment section universally criticizes Brown. When pressed further, Brown defended herself saying, “I can’t lie I did it for sixty seconds. It was time out and no more barking.”

Her Facebook profile listed her as living in Florida, which prompted many angry phone calls made to the South Daytona City Police Department. The department’s official Facebook page posted an update to the public, saying they were turning the investigation over to Avon authorities, which is where Brown currently lives.

Brown later posted an update, stating that a minute after the duct tape muzzle was used, the dog stopped barking.
