How to participate in Giving Tuesday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – You’ve made it through Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Local Business Saturday and almost through Cyber Monday. Now, you can reap some rewards for being nice on Giving Tuesday.

You can start Giving Tuesday at Marge’s Donut Denat 1751 28th Street SW in Wyoming. The first 100 people that make an on-site donation to the Women’s Resource Center will get a free donut and coffee.  WRC is also delivering an additional ten dozen donuts to local businesses.

Then, visit the B.O.B.in downtown Grand Rapids between 11:00am and 8:00pm and make any donation of money, time or food at the Catholic Charities West Michigan table and get 20% off your meal at any of the B.O.B. restaurants.

Also:

Any giving in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign on Tuesday will get matched up to $30,000.

In Kalamazoo, a portion of sales for the day at Confections with Convictionswill go to Open Doors, an organization helping the homeless.

There are also several opportunities to give:

United Way Sponsored “Adopt a Family”

  • Donors provide gifts of food, gifts, and clothing
  • Families have already been selected from Head Start programs in Kent County
  • To become a sponsor call 2-1-1 or (800) 887-1107

Holiday Food Baskets

  • Holiday food baskets for families in need

Toys for Tots: United States Marine Corps Reserve

  • New unwrapped toys for needy children
  • Toy donations may be left at any drop site. Visit: org/donate/toys.aspx to find your drop location(s)
  • Monetary donations may be donated at the Marine Reserve Center: 1863 Monroe Avenue NW, Grand Rapids, MI 59505

Salvation Army Angel Tree

  • New unwrapped toys for needy children
  • Toy donations may be left at any drop site Visit sawmni.org/angeltree

Santa Claus Girls

  • Monetary donations need. santaclausgirls.org
  • Drivers need for delivery on Saturday, December 21. Call 616-787-0026

  • Gift collection for local Healthy Start families – stop by Family Futures office for a tag from the giving tree
  • Holiday gift wrapping volunteer opportunity – wrap gifts collected

South End Community Outreach Ministries

  • Pride for Parents is a unique program which parents sign up to in credit for Christmas presents by volunteering. Parents may submit a wish list and purchase gifts with their credit
  • Financial donations are needed, along with volunteers to help wrap the presents in December

  • Donors provide gifts of food, gifts, and clothing
