DETROIT — A dog who was found stuffed in a garbage can and left to die has been put down.

According to WJBK and a press release from the Michigan Humane Society, the MHS hopes to find those responsible for leaving a  young Pomeranian mix to die in the cold.

On Monday, the humane society was notified of the helpless dog, and officials were sent out to investigate. It was around 8:15 a.m. when the dog was found, covered in frost and not moving. The dog was wrapped in a blanket and taken to a clinic for medical care. Efforts to save the dog were unsuccessful.

Officials with the humane society said they’re devastated  by this tragedy.

“We need to be a voice for these animals. We need to take action to make sure this doesn’t happen again. While we are devastated by this tragedy, we need to make sure the person who is responsible for this is brought to justice.”

Call the Michigan Humane Society Investigation Department at 313-872-3401 if you have any information. MHS is offering a $2,500 cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
