Man shot outside gas station, police looking for witness

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A 24-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being shot in the chest outside a gas station Saturday afternoon on the city’s southwest side.

In a Saturday evening release, police said they were looking for the man who they know witnessed the shooting but left the scene before speaking with police. Authorities said they are encouraging that person to come forward as a good Samaritan to share information.

Grand Rapids Police said the shooting happened around 2 p.m. near the Marathon gas station located on Franklin Street near US-131. According to police, two men were fighting inside the gas station before the altercation turned physical and spilled outside.

The suspect then pulled a gun and shot the other man in the chest, according to police on scene. The suspect drove away in a while Ford Explorer-type SUV.

Police tell FOX 17 the victim is in serious but stable condition.

Authorities said the suspect is believed to be a white or Hispanic man in his 40s or 50s with a husky build and grey hair. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, blue flannel shirt and jeans, police said.

No arrests have been made.
