BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – A Battle Creek woman who was severely beaten by her husband Saturday has died in the hospital.
Joyce Carpenter, 34, died in the hospital at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday. Battle Creek police said that her husband, Christopher Carpenter, violently beat his wife early Saturday morning and then dropped Joyce off at the hospital, but only after she agreed to say that she had been assaulted by a group of women.
After her husband left the hospital, the woman then told police that her husband had actually been the one who assaulted her.
Police then arrested Chris Carpenter on aggravated assault and several other charges.
After Joyce Carpenter’s death Tuesday, police said they intend to seek homicide charges against him. They said Chris Carpenter is a repeat offender and he could be facing more serious charges due to that fact.
