GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It is the season where thieves are looking to steal packages off of front porches and a Grand Rapids business is offering help.
The Wealthy Street Bakery has become a “UPS Access Point” meaning that if you want, you can have your packages shipped to the bakery, which is at 610 Wealthy Street SE in Grand Rapids. You can then pick up the packages when you have the time.
This actually wasn’t the bakery’s idea, but UPS’s. The shipping company canvasses neighborhoods looking for busy places like coffee shops and stores where packages would be safe. They even gave the bakery a UPS scanning device to keep track of the packages.

I wonder how UPS is doing now that Amazon has stopped using them.

First off it is not people’s decision to have their package left at these checkpoints. The majority are confused and annoyed that they have to drive out of their way to get their package. Second there is absolutely no reason a barista should be responsible for checking ID and scanning in packages. That is increasing their already busy work load. Especially during the holidays. This is a poorly written, lazy article . Bad journalism.
