BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The snow is starting to fall, roads are getting slick and cars are starting to crash.

The Battle Creek Police Department sent out an advisory to avoid northbound M-66. That stretch has reopened after several crashes. Drivers should still take it slow.

The Michigan Department of Transportation also reports two lanes of southbound US-131 south of 44th Street are also blocked due to crashes.  They also reported that I-96 westbound at 28th Street has a crash, but that has been cleared.

2″ to 4″ inches of snow is expected in some areas this afternoon through Saturday morning.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for several West Michigan counties including Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Kalamazoo and Calhoun, until 11:00am Saturday.

We’ll have live updates starting at 4:00pm on FOX 17 News.

Multiple slideoffs and whiteouts on M-37 north of 8 mile as well.

Why were the salt trucks not out at 1pm when THEY KNEW AHEAD OF TIME that this was going to be happening?!

This is negligence on the part of the county, pure and simple, and I hope that they get sued for it.
