DETROIT (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a gale warning for Lake Michigan, calling for high winds and waves that could create dangerous conditions.
The warning is effective through Thursday morning. Wind gusts of at least 50 mph and waves exceeding 15 feet are expected.
The U.S. Coast Guard urges caution for anybody on or near the water.
The severe weather risk comes after record-breaking warmth, with temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Consumers Energy says it’s preparing for power outages amid storm activity across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula that could spur isolated tornadoes and damaging winds.
In Canton, the Department of Public Safety said Wednesday night that high winds had damaged vehicles and several structures. There were no reported injuries. The Weather Service was to survey the damage Thursday.
