GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Whether you take down your your Christmas tree right away or leave it up until after New Year’s Day, most local governments provide ways to dispose of or recycle that tree that has lived out its holiday purpose. Remember to have all decorations removed from your tree before disposal.

Grand Rapids:
In Grand Rapids, residents have two ways to dispose of their trees, and the city recycles the trees by chipping them up and returning them to the soil. Through January 29, there are four drop-off sites:

  • Riverside Park (north entrance) located at 3151 Monroe Ave NE
  • JC Family Park located at 2531 Kalamazoo Ave SE
  • Lincoln Park located at 1120 Bridge St NW
  • Huff Park located at 2399 Ball Ave NE

The city also offers a curbside pickup program for a fee. Attach a $2.50 city bulk yard waste tag (the purple one) and leave the tree at the curb on trash pickup day.

East Grand Rapids:
Christmas trees and holiday wreaths where all decorations have been removed will be picked up from the curb on regular trash collection days Jan. 4-15.

Holland
Trees will only be picked up within city limits through Friday, Jan. 8. Trees may be dropped off at Bouws Pool at 365 Fairbanks Avenue through Jan. 23.

Kalamazoo
The city no longer picks up trees, but they sent out word Jan. 6 that trees stripped of all decorations can be dropped off at the Bank Street Market parking lot at 1204 Bank Street through January 31.
