ARLINGTON, Texas -- Michigan State's offense couldn't get through Alabama's defense -- and Crimson Tide quarterback Jacob Coker threw for a career-high 286 yards and two touchdowns as second-ranked Alabama knocked the third-ranked Spartans out of the College Football Playoff with a 38-0 victory Thursday night in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns, helping Alabama outgain Michigan State, 440-239.

Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook was sacked four times by the Crimson Tide, completing just 19 of 39 passes for 210 yards and two interceptions. The Spartans' rushing attack was swallowed up as well, running for just 29 yards on 26 carries. Damion Terry led MSU with 14 yards on the ground.

Cyrus Jones had an interception and punt return touchdown for the 13-1 Crimson Tide, who will face top-ranked and undefeated Clemson in the national championship game on January 11 in Glendale, Arizona.

Michigan State ends the season with a 12-2 record.
