Woman crashes through train crossing arm, into nearby building

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — A woman was hospitalized after driving her vehicle over railroad tracks and into a nearby building,

It happened at Chicago Drive and 40th Avenue in Hudsonville around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said it started Saturday around 6 p.m. when they received a call about a hit and run near the Hudsonville Retail Plaza. A deputy searching for the car later located the woman’s white 2016 KIA Sorento and stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation.

Deputies said the driver sped off and a pursuit began. The driver headed south toward Chicago Drive.

The woman then attempted to turn and head north on 40th Avenue when she lost control of her SUV and went airborne hitting crossing guard arms which landed onto the railroad tracks. Deputies said the woman then drove on the tracks for a short period before hitting a CSX station.

She was taken to the hospital her condition still remains unknown.

Deputies have charged the woman with fleeing and eluding, as well as operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
